how does it work?
Drop-in sessions will be similar to the 'random tournaments' that have taken place at some open training sessions, There are a few deliberate modifications that have been implemented with the intention of making attending drop-in sessions more worthwhile. Every participant will primarily be in attendance for fun! (Of course) but there will be an opportunity for you to try to claim some LVDL Dodgeball glory. Each week, players earn individually recorded 'season points' for their efforts. Participating in a week guarantees you at least two points, and claiming victory will score you and your teammates for that night a higher reward.
Each player on your team will earn the following points for completing a session: 1st place team: 7 points each 2nd place team: 5 points each 3rd-4th placed teams: 3 points each. 5th-8th placed teams: 2 points each.
The top 3 players based on who has the most season points at the conclusion of the Drop-in Dodgeball rounds will be presented with the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals according to their final placement after the last session has been completed. Play every week to earn as many points as you can!
Each week, the teams will be made up of entirely random players, which will be drawn as soon as the night begins. *Matches will be a best of 5 set series. *The team with the most sets points win the match. (all 5 sets are played regardless of result). *Sets will run for a maximum of 4 minutes, the referee will count down when there are 10 seconds remaining. *If, at the end of the 4 minutes, there are still players from both teams on the court, the team with the most players will be awarded the set point. *If there are an equal number of players on both sides when the 4 minutes have elapsed, the set will end as a draw, and no set points will be awarded. Each Drop-in Dodgeball session will be run with a maximum participant occupancy of 56, which will make 8 teams of 7 players each. Those of you who pre-register will be first in line to fill this capacity. *The minimum requirement for these tournaments will be 9 players. *If less than 9 people register and show up on the day, 7 season points will be awarded to each player, and the tournament will turn into a scratch match between those players. *The point structure is subject to change depending on the number of participants. *If circumstances around COVID-19 and our planning for next season permit, we may run a finals night for the top 24 players.
